At the University of Surrey Canoe Club, we welcome beginners and experienced paddlers alike and offer a variety of opportunities to get everyone involved. We even have a few members who just hang around for the social aspects! Come along to any of our sessions to find out more and to get involved!
In addition to our three weekly sessions, we have a lot of events through the year - click on the following links to find out more...

We compete in three different disciplines - Canoe Slalom, Wild-water Racing and Canoe Polo. We begin each year with many total beginners to kayaking, once you have the basics, competing is a great way to get the adrenaline pumping and to represent the University!

We start the year with easier rivers to introduce and build the skills of newcomers to the sport. More experienced kayakers are encouraged to lead and to reinforce their paddling skills.
Throughout your time in the club, you will have the opportunity to complete a variety of courses including; Kayaking ability awards, coaching awards, first aid qualifications and safety and rescue training. These are heavily subsidised and a great way to increase you confidence on the water.
In addition to our regular Wednesday socials, we have many other socials throughout the year - from trips to Thorpe Park, Play-zone and Winter Wonderland - to house crawls, pub crawls, black tie events, fancy dress etc...

Tuesday Pool Sessions

Tuesday pool sessions are for skills practice - follow our training plan to learn from the beginning or brush up on your play-boating skills! This is a great session for beginners to gain more confidence in a boat or just practice the necessary skills/techniques for kayaking. Meet at the pool at Surrey Sports Park - click here to see what you'll need to bring with you.
Sunday Canoe Polo Sessions
Sunday pool sessions are for Canoe Polo Training and skills. Canoe polo is a great sport and new to nearly everyone who joins us - so its a great chance to start a new sport from scratch. Come along to any of our sessions and either play for fun or aim to join our fresher's team! Meet at the pool at Surrey Sports Park - click here to see what you'll need to bring with you.
BVCC Canoe Polo Sessions
As a club, we train and compete with local club 'Blackwater Valley Canoe Polo', this makes for an excellent way to improve very rapidly at the sport taking university students who have never played the sport to national league competition.
Our weekly river sessions are usually held on the river Wey - although occasionally we head to some more challenging waters. These sessions are great for beginners to gain confidence before coming on our weekend trips and a good way to spend a Wednesday afternoon! Meet outside the front of Rubix any Wednesday at 1pm and we will walk together to the Guildford Waterside Centre - alternatively you can meet us there at 13:30 if you prefer. We aim to be on the water by 2pm and are usually off by 5pm - ready for hot showers, a club meal and social (keep reading to find out more!). Click here to see what you'll need to bring with you.
