Olympic Weightlifting is all about 2 lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. Next year we plan to maintain regular sessions on mastering these 2 lifts. With the help of a professional coach it allows us to cater to both male and female lifters of different levels from beginners to advanced.

Olympic Weightlifting sessions would be programmed by the coach which would change each weak. Drills would be aimed to develop parts of the snatch and the clean and jerk in order to gain a solid technique and build overall strength.

Olympic Weightlifting sessions are on every:

WEDNESDAY, 13:00-15:00 at Surrey Sports Park: Strength and Conditioning Room

Finally for those who would like to take Olympic Weightlifting to an extra level, our coach has agreed to take 8 student members to attend an extra session each week on:

SATURDAY, 11:30-13:30 at Guildford Weightlifting

NOTE: This would only be available for those who have a weightlifting club membership





Powerlifting is a type of weightlifting, comprising of the 3 big lifts: Squat, Bench and Deadlift. Our team contains lifters of all levels of experience, a mix of male and female athletes.

The sessions will usually contain 2 of the big lifts and some light accessory to help provide foundations for your weekly training, everything you need to get stronger, more confident, and good at competitive powerlifting.

Powerlifting sessions are on every: SATURDAY 12:00-14:00 at Surrey Sports Park: Strength and Conditioning Room

Play Sport (Social Sport)

Our Weightlifting Club is part of the Play Sport Programme. This means that having a team surrey membership or a full surrey sports park membership you are able to come to our sessions for free or £3 payable for non-members and lift with us. This is available at the reception desk at Surrey Sports Park.

Individual Sport Membership:

An individual sport membership is catered towards students who wish to commit to only one sport whether olympic weightlifting or powerlifting. For a cheaper rate you'd be able to have all the benefits of having a full membership for one of the sports we deliver in our club.

Full Weightlifting Club Membership:

Being a member of the Weightlifting Club means you would be able to access both weightlifting and powerlifting weekly sessions throughout the year and lets you represent our university in regional and national competitions as part of team surrey. You would also receive the benefits exclusively to our members such as programming and socials.
